Summary
After volunteering to take part in an exchange-programme, seven friends are surprised when they are told they'll be spending a year at Hogwarts, instead of some dull British school.
The friend group explores the magical world and their own magical abilities, with only limited information from years ago, back when Harry Potter was still a kid. Even though not much has changed, it doesn't exactly feel the same as they had expected.
Especially when allegations arise about a second Voldemort, they're suddenly caught within a web of truths and lies, unable to differentiate between them due to their newcommer-status in the Magical World.

The story focuses on the slowly growing relationship between Severus Snape and Hermione Granger, and follows them to her last year at Hogwarts. It is mixed with the adventure of horcrux hunting. While the relationship blossoms while they are still a student and teacher, Hermione is of age by the time anything happens between them (actually 19 because of the time she aged using a time turner).

Harry and friends were overjoyed by the appearance of a Sirius, a Remus, and many others, each of whom was spared by a quirk of fate in their own timeline. But though Harry's heart skips a beat with every unexpected knock at the door, neither James nor Lily has been spotted.
After initial anxiety, the Ministry determined that no doubles of anyone living survived the Recombination Event. Reality had room for just one of each individual; only the dead left empty space for other possibilities to fill. To general relief (and lingering unease), some spaces in the world remain empty. The Ministry is quite sure the Recombination Event has not resulted in any alternate versions of You-Know-Who running about. Quite sure. Nearly certain.
