The words barely audible escape Charles's lips before he realizes it, as if he's once again lost the connection between what he's saying and what he's thinking.
Edwin freezes at his seat, standing in front of a book open on the table, his hands stopping halfway to it. He lifts his head abruptly, and his gaze fixes Charles in place, as if mesmerized.

Summary
The problem with tonight is that Charles sort of forgets himself. He usually knows when to back off, when the slide of tongues and traveling hands gets to be too much, when he can feel things picking up heat in ways he really can't have them doing.
He just really bloody wants them to, is the thing. He wants to touch Edwin, wants to see him laid out bare for him, to take him apart.
And he really, really wants to be touched in return.

Charles has been locked in an enchanted cock cage for over ten years now. Once he and Edwin get together, he tries to avoid taking things to far with him, as much as he wants to. He only has so much restraint, however, and Edwin may not be as put off by Charles's problem as he feared.

Summary
They punished him for bringing fire.
When they sentenced him to his eternal punishment, he was promised hawks. He was promised entrails. He was promised being tied up to a cliff face, his insides torn apart.
He was given one of those promises, and the most painful one, at that. Edwin’s insides litter the stones of the tunnels that he is trapped in, with parts of his corpses laid out as a warning for him to not ever test the King of the Gods again, if he is ever released from his infinite torment.
They said it was a punishment for bringing fire. For being too curious. For committing the sin of pride.
In some ways, they were right. Edwin fell in love with a boy, a human boy, and could not bear to see him cold, so he brought him the same life-giving fire that was hoarded on Olympus.
They punished him for bringing fire. But more importantly, they punished him for bringing life. For falling in love with a mortal, and deciding that he could not let said mortal end up going the supposedly ‘natural’ way of things, so he gave him life-giving fire.
Edwin gave him immortality giving fire.
That was his true crime.

Summary
He appreciates that she tried. That she didn't want a twelve year old to see all the blood and the torn-apart bodies on the streets. Now, though, at sixteen, Charles has got a gash in his leg and he's trying to avoid a decaying corpse with caved in ribs and a mass of maggots wriggling in the cavity. He has a hard enough time walking on it already — an infection wouldn't help his case.

Blood that no longer existed seemed to freeze in him as he stared at Edwin. “What?” he asked, his throat locking up.
Thin, nimble fingers darted up and down Edwin’s coat before settling into fists against each other. Nervous, flighty energy rolled off of him in waves, nearly strong enough to make Charles sick.
“Perhaps I was mistaken,” Edwin said. “I– well, I just thought.”

Countless ghosts are trudging around the area and Crystal stops in front of one that looks barely older than she is, wearing clothes that look pretty medieval. They’ve got a large pail of cement in their hands, and their eyes look right through her. “Are you okay?” She asks.
Their face remains blank, but they don’t try to walk through her. Instead, they just stand there, vacant, as more ghosts move around them.
“What’s going on?” Crystal tries again, but she’s not exactly expecting a response. There’s no spark of recognition in their face, just tensed shoulders and the exhaustion that comes with having the fight beaten out of you. She grimaces, but steps out of their path, unable to do anything but watch as they continue without hesitation, following all the other ghosts up to the walls.

Whatever was going on in the cat's head - the ghost wasn't privy to any of it, seeing as the cat had not spoken a word to him. That was fine. After all, Edwin didn't come to the alley to chat - he came here to… Why, exactly?
He wasn't sure.
But a small smile would appear on the ghost's pale face whenever the cat decided to indulge in whatever treat Edwin had brought him. And that was nice.
Edwin wouldn't call it an accomplishment, but… Well, he found some satisfaction in what he was doing.

Of all the things that Charles Rowland expected to come out of the week, conspiring with a strange, middle-aged, living, American man to take down a rogue spirit was hardly on his list of expectations.
It had only been a couple months since the events in Port Townsend, and the remnants of such chaos had been left fresh in everyone’s minds, leaving an undeniable, looming sense of exhaustion behind agency doors. It was for that exact reason that Charles had initially planned on taking an agency hiatus, dedicating as much time as possible to recuperating with Edwin, and helping both Crystal and Jenny settle into the London scene.
