“Odysseus.” Odysseus did not startle. He also did not greet Diomedes despite having known of his approach. “Odysseus?”
Perhaps this was some sort of battle related trauma. Diomedes ended up sitting down besides Odysseus and let his shoulder bump against the sullen King. “Talk to me, friend.”
“...About what?”
“What’s going on? Polites is concerned, so are your men. Was it the blood? Or the men who fell? Rest assured, friend, none of yours fell today.”
“Do you think King Sisyphus fights against his punishment? Do you think the Fates would allow him, if he did?”
Flinching, Diomedes observed the change in Odysseus’ eyes. Instead of the colour of the sea, Odysseus’ eyes were taken over by a hue of red– only noticeable when observed in a certain angle but definitely present. Diomedes knew what caused a hue of red like that.
Odysseus had been touched by Ares’ Rage.

Odysseus nodded.
"Yes. I never know how you'll react, and once upon a time, everyone knew how you reacted to me. But there are no other options."
Eurylochus had told him to leave him behind. Eurylochus was stronger than him: Polites couldn't do it. Polites didn't want to go any further, he didn't want to lose anyone.

Athena sees a potential pair of warriors in the two boys she mentors - yes, two - and decides to train 'em young. It all seems to be going well, except for the fact that they can't seem to simply get along!
Diomedes is from Argos and Odysseus is just in Argos for whatever reason I made up lol.
They have beef almost immediately and yeah eventually become friends, found family and allat. -

Summary
A talon of lightning cleaved the world in two, blinding in the nightdark sky. The thunder was worse still, roaring so terribly that Odysseus felt it vibrate in the marble railing beneath his hands.
More insistently, now, a yanking on his very soul: Come to me.
He knew that Zeus could see him, had learned what his gaze felt like. He knew he was watching. When Penelope came up behind him, pressing nude against his back, Odysseus could not resist making a show of it, laying his hands over hers where they rested against his chest, gazing defiantly up at the raging sky.
“You’ll catch death out here,” Penelope told him, shouting to make her voice carry over the winds.
No, Odysseus thought. His skin was turning numb from the force of the rain, a thousand tiny pebbles flung at his form. He could hardly keep his eyes open. No, he would not catch death. Had Zeus wanted him dead, Odysseus would have been dead, not wet and freezing.
Odysseus smiled as he relented, letting Penelope bring him back inside and dry him.
A tantrum, nothing more.

At a party, though, Diomedes finally approaches the smartest kid in school, who doesn't want to get close to anyone. Will he and the Achaeans (what Diomedes dubbed their friend group) uncover what lies beneath Odyssues's carefully curated mask?

Summary
Odysseus grew up in a very loving, well off family, with loving parents and a....well, loving is an overstatement, maybe "tolerable" little sister. They lived in their little town of Ithaca, New York, where Odysseus met his friends and went to elementary and middle school, and was also mentored under the watchful eye of his Mentor Athena. But then things went....extremely southwards, his Mentor moved away to a bigger town, somewhere in Michigan, Odysseus' father Laertes, who was providing for their family, got diagnosed with dementia. Anticlea, looking to both get Odysseus in a better school, get better treatment for her husband, buy a cheaper, more sustainable house with her rather rather measly income, and connect with some older family friends, decided to uproot their family and move them to Troy, Michigan. She picked up more jobs where she could to get the money for their fathers' treatment, as well as to sustain their family, leaving Odysseus to care for his sister mostly alone while starting a completely new school in a completely new town he knows nothing about.
This is my first ever fic, I'll try to keep updates consistent, probably once every week or 2. It's probably going to be cringe, but ill have fun.

He was more handsome still than he’d been at Troy, his features filled out with wine and good food, his hair well cared for, falling freely about his shoulders and chest in felted sections. His scars had faded to pale strips on his otherwise nightdark skin, and his ears were heavy with all the gold set into them, rings and studs and dangling chains adorning every part of them.
“You used to know me from my breaths alone,” Diomedes said. “What happened?”
For every bit that’d changed, there were a dozen that had stayed the same. The cropped, dark beard, emphasising the slanting planes of his face. The keen eyes, green as the emeralds his kingdom was known for. That smile, striking white between his full lips, a smile that could have lit the darkest moments—and had, once upon a time.
Looking closer now, Odysseus knew him, though he could not bring himself to feel embarrassed for not recognising him at first. He had long stopped expecting friends in the faces of strangers.
“That was a long time ago.”

Summary
For Odysseus, life has been nothing but amazing. At the age of 25, he and the love of his life, Penelope, have graduated college and moved in together in a nice suburban home. However, while the future looked bright, the reality was far grimmer. When the state of Achaea falls victim to an unprecedented attack committed by the state of Troy, Odysseus is drafted and sent off to war.
His world now uprooted, Odysseus will spend years upon years searching for what he once knew, Penelope and the peace he previously had. However, as Odysseus continues his physical and mental journey, he will ultimately be faced with the true question: Can he reclaim the past ripped away from him, if it's even possible, without losing the remnants that he still has?
It is a question of how far he must go, to retake what he has known. He is just a man who is trying to navigate through the uncertain reality that has been imposed on him.

It was a statement, not a question, but he still nodded.
“You have no name to align with your own.”
“The others at the palace had taken to referring to me as ‘The Son of Sisyphus’. I do not wish to be called that.”
He sounded pitiful, and yet there was still not any sign of that cursed emotion in her eyes. Instead there was something sharp and hair-raising about the way her pupils seemed to grow and then shrink the longer she looked at him.
“You are alone.”
“I am alone. . .” he whispered, knowing she heard him. “I do not wish to be forever.”
At the age of twelve Odysseus is ripped from his home and stripped of his titles after narrowly avoiding execution by his own father's hands. Unable to find stability, his wanderings lead him to Sparta. There he meets Menelaus and, by the other prince's encouragement, agrees to compete for Helen’s hand for the sake of food and shelter. Unsure of what comes next, Odysseus only knows one thing: his struggles are far from over. . .
Inspired by the non-Homeric myth of Odysseus’s father being Sisyphus rather than Laertedes, and my own love for a certain song that introduced me to EPIC.
