"No. I don't think I'll ever get used to it," Jon retorted, approaching him to kiss his damp forehead. Damian smiled slightly.
"Hmm, shouldn't you be putting our son to bed?"
"Apparently someone did it for me while I was washing the dishes, so I have nothing to do."
This time, Damian laughed heartily. "So you thought you'd come and annoy me?"
"I thought you might like a massage." As he said this, Jon placed his hands on Damian's shoulders. Damian groaned involuntarily when Jon applied a little pressure with his fingers. "And judging by how stiff your muscles are, I think I had a great idea."
"Any excuse to put your hands on me."
"You make it sound less romantic when you put it like that, you know?"

“Do I have to repeat myself, Jonathan?” Damian snaps and oh wow, he really must be embarrassed if he’s using Jon’s full name. “If you really are so desperate and lonely as to not have any other choices, I suppose I am obligated to fill the role as your partner.”
Partner. Damian’s used the phrase for nearly a decade and yet this is the first time to hear the word with a deeper connotation, an added layer. Jon likes the sound of it already.
“First off, I have plenty of friends! Secondly,” he pauses for dramatic effect because he knows it’ll drive Damian crazy. “Are you fake-asking me out right now?”
“You’re ridiculous,” Damian huffs and hangs up. Jon’s left staring at his phone, a dopey grin on his face because that sure as hell wasn’t a “no” which is as good as a “yes” in Damianese.

There it is again, that stupid nickname. Jon would refer to every damn thing in that overtly affectionate, callously unprofessional term. Jon was becoming more like his mother as time went on, calling everyone “honey”.
“I can take care of myself, or did your inter-dimensional travel interfere with your memory?”
Damian hoisted himself onto the horse, ignoring how horribly good Jon looked leaning against his rusted farm motorcycle.
“Good to know you’re still a brat.”
“Tt.”
Or, the one where Jon and Damian drifted apart ever since he came back from the Legion. Four years later, they’re forced to reunite when Damian is sent away to spend the summer over at the Kent’s family farm.

“I have no use for broken weapons,” she finally says and pushes him once, sending him reeling. He’s spinning in an abyss, swallowed up by the void. “Don’t you know that, Damian?”
He knows. It was one of the first lessons he’d learned in the League. He’s disposed of many broken weapons himself, always the perfect blade, always the perfect pupil. And now look at him. Disgraced and disowned.
And then in the darkness, a familiar red cape descends from the sky like an omen.
“No,” Damian breathes out because he can deal with his family tossing him out, he can deal with his own mother calling him a disgrace but he can’t handle Jon’s disappointment. Jon is the one and only person to stay with him not out of a familial obligation but out of choice. He is the only one who Damian chose and who chose him back.
