Jason gets magically de-aged, and Bruce believes he gets a second chance to care for his son, to fix it all. Jason doesn't remember anything, but the body remembers, the soul remembers, and he acts on instincts. He knows that Alfred is kind, that Barbara is a safe person, and he knows that Bruce isn't.
He can't shake the feeling that something bad is going to happen to him, and that feeling gets worse every time Bruce gets near.
Bruce wants a fresh slate, Jason is terrified.

Darla makes a face at the reminder, “Ugh, don’t remind me traitor, moving to Blüdhaven! How could you!”
“I don’t think he had much say in the matter.” Bernard joins them on the way to class, “Ives is sick by the way, I don’t know if you saw the group chat already.”
“I haven’t.” Tim confirms, he’d fallen asleep pretty quickly in the car and hadn’t checked the chat that morning. “Is it just a cold or?”
“Just a cold.” Bernard states. “He’s okay.”
“Good.” Tim quickly side steps a couple boys racing down the halls.
“Did you hear the news yet?” Darla asks, “Your parents made bail.”
Tim nods, Dick had told him as soon as he’d gotten the news. “Yeah I’ve known for a couple days.”
“What happens now?” Bernard asks. “Like do you go back? Are you going to have to see them?”
“I’m not going back.” Tim states, his pulse speeding up at the thought.

He remembered begging for help, his voice barely a whisper.
He remembered the panicked footsteps that barged into the apartment, the loud voices, the equipment. He remembered the feeling of helplessness. The utter terror of watching through the small slit of the cracked-open door as paramedics got her back. He remembered waiting with batted breaths, pleading to whoever was out there to spare her.
Please, he had thought, helplessly. I can't lose Mama. Please, I can't lose her too. Please, she's all I have. Please. Please. Please.

It’s in every promise— whether gifted or given —because in the end every one of them is nothing but ash.
That’s okay, though, because Bruce can endure. He can endure, because he knows by now that love is enduring things, and waiting for his reward. Yes, Bruce can endure, because that’s what love is.

He’s not sure why he’s so surprised – the Drakes are known for their work in archeology, and not much of that can be done locally. Still, he assumed that they took Timothy with them when they left the country for work. It seems a shame to leave him with a nanny this close to Christmas.
“Okay,” he says, erasing the numbers typed into his phone. “What’s your nanny’s number, then?”
“My what?” Timothy looks scandalized.
“Your babysitter? Whoever is in charge of you while your parents are gone,” he clarifies.
“I’m in charge of me when my parents are gone,” Timothy says proudly, his little chest puffing out. “I’m the Man of the House.”
