Summary
It had been hard at first. Eddie was so used to orbiting Buck like the sun, constantly pulled into his gravity and warmth, that the thought of being apart from him seemed impossible.
Then, his anger had brewed during Buck’s absence from the 118, growing until it rivalled that gravity, becoming a force in its own right.
Eddie was weak to Buck’s eyes though, always had been, so it became self-defence to avoid them at all costs. The easiest way to do this was avoiding Buck, and so began the cold front.
The thing with Eddie and avoidance was that once he started it was very hard for him to stop. He was a pro at compartmentalisation, a skill he had to perfect to survive the emotional battleground that was his childhood. A facet of that which he had never quite learned was how to unpack any of it after the fact.
He knew that was called repression; he knew it wasn’t healthy - hell, he even knew that he was long overdue a meeting with a therapist. But angry Eddie wasn’t logical Eddie, and without Buck to pull him out, he fell further into the well of rage and denial.

When Buck suddenly starts appearing happier after the lawsuit, Eddie's jealousy threatens to undo him.

He decides to keep his return to L.A. a secret until he's ready to face them one by one. With some interesting but much-needed conversations on the horizon, Buck readies himself for the fight ahead of him.
OR, Buck returns to L.A. to try to fight for his job.
This is a sequel to my other Fic 'Can't Keep Chasing This Fire (I'm so Damn Tired)' and would make more sense once that one has been read.

Summary
When a ceiling collapse leaves Buck injured and bleeding out under Eddie's hands, the confession of his feelings slips out easily and without much thought. Maybe confessing his love to his best friend would be fine, if only the person who remembered what Eddie had said was Buck rather than Hen and Chim. As Buck recovers, he and Eddie navigate sharing space, unspoken (or unremembered) feelings, and the anxiety that comes with being in love with your best friend (and your coworkers knowing about it).

After the "incident in the kitchen" at the end of season 8, Buck has to come to terms with Eddie's growing abusive tendencies over the years, the fact that they increase in the face of Eddie's grief over Bobby's death, and the fact that the 118 is no longer Buck's home. Along the way, he figures out what he wants home and family to truly mean, with some help from Tommy, Ravi, Athena, and the Deluca family.

Eddie turned to Taylor and raised a brow, curiosity flitting across his face before promptly vanishing. “So I’m a babysitter with a gun?”
Oh he’s got jokes. Great. Buck scoffed internally, his eyes narrowed at the two. He was twenty-eight and this was utterly ridiculous.

Summary
If Buck could build a time machine, there are three things in his life that he would change.
The first, and most glaringly obvious, is that he would have marched up to Chase Mackey and slapped the business card out of his hand. He then would scream at past-Buck and tell him what an idiotic move pursuing the lawsuit would be.
If that wasn't satisfying enough, he would go even further back to the truck bombing and position himself in such a way that when the truck went over it didn't just land on his leg. It would be kinder, he thinks, to have it all just be over. To save the 118 the extended guilt of his desperation to hang on to his imagined place in the family.
If he was the most honest with himself though, there was only one true answer for what he would do with his time machine. He would go back to before he was conceived and save the world the trouble of bringing Evan Buckley into it.
Unfortunately he hadn't figured out time travel just yet, and is instead stuck with the usual man-behind duties that comes with being the 118's biggest nuisance.

Summary
Eddie throws a few well practiced punches, and dances around his opponent on light feet. It's almost beautiful, mesmerizing. The way the sweat shines of his shoulders under the swaying lights, as the muscles tense and move. The thuds and grunts that in any other setting could be described as erotic. Here, Buck would like to call them grotesque. The fight ends, Eddie emerging victorious. The crowd cheers, Buck does not.
- Buck figures out Eddie is participating in fight-nights, does not like it and decides to put an end to it. -

“I’m not cheap.” He says, ignoring the whole hunting thing. Eddie doesn’t seem to know what to do with Buck.
“I know. I’m not asking you to join my payroll.”
“So, you want me to help you take down my parents for free? In exchange for what? A bodyguard? Not good enough.”
Eddie shakes his head, “Our opening move would be public, and would get those in their circle talking, both those inside the bounds of the law and outside.”
“Ohhhh kay?”
“Evan Buckley, I want you to marry me.”
Buck laughs, “Holy shit, no. Nope. Not happening.”AKA: the marriage of convenience mafia AU I've been working on for months.

Summary
“Buck-” Maddie’s voice broke and Buck refused to look at her as he kept his gaze down at his wringing hands that rested on his knees.
“Maddie. I said don’t. We are not having this talk.” He dug his palms into his legs, pushing down hard enough to feel the bone. “I don’t- you have given me this talk every year since I was twelve. Spare me for my final year okay?”
“Buck I’m just- your name is in there 37 times-” Maddie tried to continue but Buck shook his head, squeezing his eyes shut and pushing off of the bed.
“You think I don’t know that?” Buck shouted, his voice breaking slightly as he spun around to face Maddie. “You think I’m not aware how even though it is my last year, that I am five days away from my nineteenth birthday, and yet I am terrified to have hope because I know that it can be ripped away from me the second my name gets pulled from that stupid bowl?! I know Maddie! I fucking know!”

After returning from Afghanistan Buck and Eddie move to LA to put down roots and in the process build the family they deserve, not the ones they were born with.

“What are you doing here?” Buck asked, “I thought you were going to station six?”
Eddie had that shit eating grin he got whenever he was being a cheeky bastard, “Last minute change of plans.” He gave a faux nonchalant shrug.
Suddenly Buck’s face fell into a suspicious glare, “You’re not fucking with me, are you? Rocking up to tease me with those abs of yours and then fucking off to your actual station?”
Eddie’s smile turned fond, enough confirmation that this was for real, “No, I’m here for good.”
“Good, I’ll introduce you then.” Eddie followed Buck as he led him back to the small group, “Everyone this is Eddie Diaz, Eddie this is Hen, Bobby and Chimney.”
“I didn’t realise you two knew each other.” Bobby said, analysing the two of them.
Eddie and Buck began to laugh in unison, “Know each other?” Buck said, speaking through the laugh.
“We share a mortgage.” Eddie finished for him.

Summary
“Do you regret it?”
Lena shakes her head, more hair coming lose from her bun. “I know the wise thing would be to say I do. I’m reformed, I’ve seen the error of my ways. But I don’t. Fighting got me through tough times, fighting was there for me when I wasn’t ready to heal, when I needed an outlet for all the pain and the rage but couldn’t handle facing it. I’m where I am now because of it.”
Buck nods along but he can’t say he’s listening. Not anymore, the words “outlet” and “rage” dancing a vicious tango at the forefront of his consciousness. But he knows enough to nod along and Lena must read something on his face, must notice that he’s gone again, because she swiftly makes her way to the parking lot, goodbyes said but no words registering in Buck’s brain. He’s still nodding, but more so to himself this time.

OR: Buck does not know how to deal with Bobby's death and all the feelings from it. A surprise guest at the funeral gives him a solution but it's not something Buck's allowed to pursue, not if Eddie Diaz has anything to say about it.
