The words were simple. But they landed like a blow.
“I’m the last Black,” Regulus said, eyes narrowing. “That house is mine by right. It’s my name. My heritage.”
Kreacher flinched. “The wards will not recognize Master Regulus. The protections were transferred long ago. . . ever since Kreacher’s old Mistress passed, everything changed about the house. And now it is belonging to Kreacher’s current Master.”

When Regulus Black finds out about James becoming an Animagus, he wants in. Unfortunately, fate is a cruel thing and regardless of the bonds they form, their lives are already spelled out. James will fall to the Dark Lord, and Regulus will realize too late that he'd spent his entire life in service to evil.
This is going to be a LONG series split into three fics, starting at 1975 (Regulus' fourth year) and continuing onwards until death. It should be mostly canon compliant but there are a couple small things Im planning on changing (creative liberties must be taken to tell a new story). I've always wanted to explore a canon Jegulus, particularly how James and Regulus's relationship could work if Regulus was completely loyal to Voldemort until the end. A lot of lies, unfortunately is the answer. But hey, we're here for an angsty time, not a good one.

“Is he beautiful?” she would ask them, with Regulus shaking next to her.
“Yes,” they would reply. “He’s perfect.”
“Much more beautiful than you ever were,” one portrait added, and that’s when Regulus finally recognized the look on his mother’s face. It wasn’t anger, but jealousy. She was jealous of Regulus. She released him, and he went to his room, and didn’t understand what had happened.
