Summary
Viktor sinks further onto the support of his palm and pouts. Whatever dexterity is left in those skillful hands does not belong to him tonight. So he watches as Jayce works, slow and faltering.
“You're unsteady,” Viktor notes softly.
A beat passes before Jayce draws his bottom lip between his teeth, a subtle flush rising to his cheeks, and his gaze flicks over to Viktor’s passive hand.
“So keep me steady.” The assertive bite in Jayce’s tone is familiar in a context once removed, but here, it’s subdued by a perpetual undercurrent of exhaustion.

As the deadline initializing the start of Hexgate construction approaches, Viktor and Jayce attempt to make up for the parts of their relationship they've set aside over the past few months. While Jayce is focused on the celebratory date he's planned, Viktor finds himself distracted more often than not. -

Summary
“It appears that we may not be finished for the evening quite yet,” Viktor says with a playful lilt, “if I am interpreting your body language correctly, Jayce.” His controlled tone is betrayed by the way he thickly swallows, and the breathless exhale that ensues. Jayce is grateful he's not the one to break the silence, because any noise that would've come out of him at that moment could only have been pitifully thin and needy.
“Oh please, Vik—can we not be?”

Viktor blinked, eyes fixed on the wall of the lab. He knew, without having to check, that Jayce was completely focused on his task – brow furrowed, hands busy, not a thought in his head except for the intricate adjustments of the brace in front of him.
Or, Viktor finds himself hopelessly attracted to Jayce despite his own misgivings.
Jayce finds himself doing nice things for Viktor and daydreaming about him.

Summary
Observation 1 : Jayce is terrible at taking care of himself. It is a regular occurrence that he neglects sleep, nutrition and his own mental health in favour of work. The consequences are numerous and detrimental to his well-being, as well as their progress on the Hexgates.
Observation 2 : Jayce is incredibly responsive to direct orders and praise, and seems—on a subconscious level—increasingly more willing to accomplish a task if given an outside command.
A hypothesis is drawn.

Viktor took one last drag of the cigarette, breathed out the smoke, and looked off to the side for somewhere to put it out. He was just about to drop it onto the ground next to them when Jayce made a sound of protest.
"No, don't."
When Viktor looked down at Jayce, he found the man’s pupils blown so wide with arousal and need that only a thin ring of hazel could be visible around the black. His face was flushed, and his mouth was half open, lips shining with his own spit.
“Hmm?” Viktor hummed inquisitively.
Jayce’s throat worked in a thick swallow before he spoke again. “Put it out in my mouth.”

It’s only when they're fully settled under the sheets, legs tangled together, that Viktor breaks the silence. They're facing each other, so Jayce can make out the rosiness of his cheeks in the dim light, the way he avoids eye contact. He twirls his hair and Jayce waits patiently for him to speak.
“I…apologize. I lost my composure tonight.” Is what he seems to settle on, finally looking at Jayce.
(or; Jayce uses the scientific method to figure out Viktor’s deepest desires. The results turn out to be better than he expected.)
