Jayce struggles against Viktor’s grasp, his head is being forced backwards by Viktor’s hand on his chin, so he’s looking up at the featureless face above him.
Then, in an instant, it changes. It’s Viktor he sees- actually Viktor. The world fades away into an endless void, and he’s not staring at marble anymore. A real face, as far as he’s concerned. Viktor, but not quite. His hair is a pearly white that glows with soft colors. Jayce can feel him more like a presence, and it’s now more than ever that he can tell how much power he has.
But those eyes.
Golden eyes, ones that he’s so familiar with. Eyes that he sees in his dreams… and, admittedly, his fantasies.

“I’m not supposed to be.” The dog muttered. Then, cringing as if he expected to be hit, he asked, “Aren’t you… going to punish me?”
“Punish you for what? Solving a months-long deadlock in my research?” Viktor gawked at the suggestion, “By all means, speak more!”
Golden eyes snapped up to meet his own. Viktor watched as the vastaya’s expression journeyed from astonished, to cautious, and then, finally, fragilely hopeful in real time.
“Seriously?” He whispered.

A long, drawn-out moment stretched between them, thick with anticipation. Then, Viktor finally broke the silence, his voice a low, almost guttural whisper. “I see… a fool.” But the word lacked its usual venom. It was almost… fond. “A beautiful, infuriatingly optimistic fool.”
That word. Beautiful. It was a quiet tremor in the air, a tiny spark that ignited a roaring fire within Jayce. He felt the familiar warmth spread, the intoxicating rush of validation. Not just any validation, but Viktor’s. Viktor, who saw the flaws, who deconstructed everything, who rarely offered unvarnished praise. This was more potent than any scientific award.
He closed the remaining distance, his lips crashing against Viktor’s.

Jayce never created Hextech, but remained as an engineer within the academy. However, despite their degrees of separation, their paths are nonetheless entangled in ways beyond comprehension.
