Hawkmoth was defeated and unmasked as Gabriel Agreste almost 8 years ago. Since then, Chat Noir has vanished without a trance, and without a word to his superhero partner, Ladybug. Ladybug has distributed the other miraculous to various holders permanently, creating a team of superheroes to protect Paris.
Marinette Dupain-Cheng is 24 years old, and a famous fashion designer in Paris. She pours all her time and energy into her work, to avoid dwelling on her failures. Marinette believes she given up her life as Ladybug. Everyday, she wonders what became of Chat Noir, and hopes that someday, he will return to Paris.
After his father was exposed as Hawkmoth, Adrien Agreste fled the country, moving to the US. He never planned on returning to Paris. On returning to everything he had left behind, including Ladybug. When Adrien makes a decision that ultimately leads to his return, a new threat arises, one that will expose the past and bring buried secrets to light.

His eyes were harsh and unyielding, actively scrutinizing Adrien’s story. “Lying won’t help you here, kid. Your dad confessed. Just tell us the truth, and we can cut you a deal. You’re young,” he pushed. “You don’t have to go down for your dad’s mistakes.”
Adrien’s heart pounded in his chest. He glanced at Ladybug across the table. He could practically see the gears turning in her head, trying to figure him out. Rubbing his palms together, the rattle of the cuffs dragged him out of his thoughts. “I’m telling you the truth.” His voice wavered, “I was at a shoot.”

In the distance, Marinette could see Collège Françoise Dupont. Her mind briefly wandered to her old friends, to her transfer, and to how she found herself here, looking out into the distance with her best friend from Rosenhart Academy for the Gifted.
“Yeah.” Marinette agreed. “I think I’m happier that way, too.”
