“Mike..” he says softly. Mike looks at him. Will raises a hand to his cheek, suddenly not caring for anyone else. But Mike flinches the moment it makes contact, so instead he settles it on Mike’s knee. “Are you okay?”
(No, you idiot, he thinks. Of course he’s not okay. He’s cursed and no one knew! You didn’t even know Vecna was close. That is such a stupid question)
Mike opens his mouth to respond, but nothing comes out. He looks so lost, it scares Will.
Max chews on her nail as Lucas keeps crossing and uncrossing his arms, and Will knows it’s probably killing Dustin to stay quiet. El is close to tears.
(His own eyes burn too)
Will’s about to call his name again but then Mike cracks a small smile and says: “I think we defeated Vecna.”

At first, it felt impossible to move on. All the deaths that happened, the long-term injuries he was subjected to—he thought they would haunt him forever, even after Vecna’s death. But he did move on, everyone did. And moving on included cutting some people out of his life.
However, one day, after 2 decades, Will heard it again—Vecna’s voice.

“Don’t be, Byers, just tell me what's going on.”
Will just then found his mouth very dry and a lump set in his throat. Suddenly, all the words in his mouth died and he simply stared straight ahead.
“Will.” Max said softly after a few seconds. “Who’s grave is it?”
Will forced the lump down his throat as he answered her.

A Will and Jonathan introspection from season 1.
Everything hurts when Will wakes up. His fingers feel like they’re going to fall off, and his body is one big aching mess. Vines press indents into his arms despite his sleeves, telling him he’s been there too long. That it’s going to catch up, and he can’t have that happen. If he does, he’ll never get home. But it’s so cold. Almost too cold to move, and his skin is white as a sheet when he looks down at his shaking hands. But still he pushes himself up.
He teeters, unsteady and barely able to stand. Fear floods his veins at the idea of not being able to run, not being able to find another hiding place. Then he hears it, growling. It’s distant, but unmistakably the Demogorgon. And then Will’s running again, and everything starts to blur together. He grew up in this town, and he knows it inside and out. It’s not hard for him to remember his way around, but every hour he spends here, he gets slower and it gets harder to get away. And that thing never stops.

Summary
El stood and stared at the wreckage. She’d known it was bad, but this was way more than they’d expected. A whole lot more than she could manage, especially after just escaping Vecna. Defeated, she turned to look at her dad, taking in his tired face, with dull eyes carpeted by heavy bags and new scars he’d amassed since last summer. For the first time since they’d become a makeshift family, El noticed a sense of fatigue she’d never seen in him before, that felt deeper, and had settled into him easily, but crept up on her uncomfortably.

Angst and fluff of the extended party, a few at a time they all end up at Steve's place, but I don't think he has many objections :)
Each chapter will have a different pov character, and diving into some of their struggles, both internally and externally, so some of the chapters might end up being a bit of a character study.
As far as I can tell, none of the things I wanted to include fit together at any point in the shows canon, so I do what I like.

After the events of season 2, Will Byers has taken a turn for the worse. First of all, he hits his head hard. Not just a little hit, a really bad hit. He is in the hospital and comes up with lots of physical issues. Plus he is dealing with lots of mental issues as well, such as anxiety, depression, and autism (which has gotten a lot worse from his PTSD).
Even after all these things, he still has family and friends here to help him. They are the ones that are helping him get through it.

It’s November 1983 and Will Byers has disappeared. Mike, Dustin, and Lucas met Eleven during their search for Will, but she’s not the only person that escaped from the lab with supernatural abilities.
Soon after her escape, 004 aka Luna, found her way out too. Luna is smaller and not as strong as Eleven, but she has elemental powers as well.
Something about Will is familiar to these girls, but they’re not sure what. They want to help find and rescue him, even though they haven’t met.
This version follows a lot of what’s canon for season one, but adds in the character of Luna, a lab worker named Zack that was kind to the girls and worked on an escape plan, Joyce and Hopper’s search for Will, and Will’s time in the Upside Down and how he’s staying alive while searching for a way to contact his family and friends, and find a way out.
