Summary
Buck and Eddie are a week away from getting married.
But Buck hasn't been feeling good lately. So, he goes to a clinic.
Turns out he’s pregnant with Eddie Diaz’s baby.
Buck’s nervous to tell Eddie, but Eddie’s over the moon.
Oh, and Eddie loves seeing his now husband pregnant with their baby. (Smut ahead)
The two men bond stronger with their family/the team. But especially with Bobby, Athena, and Chris. And each other.
This is the story of Buddie’s first surprise baby.

Summary
“But with Bobby, I’ve been trying to do better,” Eddie says.
A hand rests on his shoulder, a thumb stroking. It’s a familiar gesture, but the fingers aren’t calloused enough to be her brother’s. Maddie’s fingers are slimmer, more delicate. It eases the hurt all the same.
“I think you have been,” Maddie reassures him, “at least you’re not joining illegal fight clubs this time. Just very legal book clubs.”
Eddie snorts. The callout was unexpected.
“You’re not what?” Karen’s eyes bulge out of her head as she sits back down.
Eddie chuckles and finally meets Maddie’s gaze. “I hate that Buck tells you everything.”
OR Eddie joins a book club with Maddie and Karen after Bobby’s death, while Buck slowly drifts away.

Summary
“Buck?” he comes into view, slowing down from a sprint just before Eddie and doubling over, hands on his knees, breathing heavily. “What the hell are you doing here? Is everything okay? Are you okay? Jesus how did you get past security—”
“Just give me a second” he says, breathing heavily “Let me just… catch my breath”
So Eddie waits the most agonizing minute of his life as his best friend calms down enough to talk, slowly straightening up and holding his gaze, his eyes determined.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you. Everything is fine, I’m fine. Apart from, you know, sprinting through LAX with no shoes on.”
Eddie looks down and Buck really doesn’t have any shoes on.
“Where are your shoes?”
“TSA. Doesn’t matter.” He waves him off and Eddie feels like he’s on a prank show.
Or: Eddie goes to El Paso to reconnect with his son, leaves his best friend behind, and finds more in his hometown than he bargained for.

Summary
“Well it’s not like you have any prospects, Evan,” Margaret sniffed, hands folded neatly on top of the table next to her nearly full glass of wine.
That was Buck’s final straw. Comments from the whole evening, from his entire life, flashed in his mind. Every single time his parents made him feel like a disappointment; inadequate; unloved; too much; a burden. And Buck took it, first because he believed he deserved it, then, after the 118, because it was easier to just ignore it. But now? Now he wasn’t just fighting for himself, he was fighting for Eddie, and if there was one thing Buck knew without a shadow of a doubt, it was that he would always fight for the man he loved.
“Eddie, my literal boyfriend, is right there,” Buck practically snarled, pushing his chair out with a loud scrape and jumping to his feet.
*My take on the Buck Begins arc set in an alternate season 3 before Chim and Maddie get pregnant and where Buddie is canon. Margaret and Phillip Buckley come to visit. It goes about as well as expected. Featuring Mad Buck™, Sad Buck™, and Happy Buck™

Buck: wait WHY would he be texting you
are you his gay teacher???
why not me???? i’m literally his best friendHen: You’re like a toddler gay. You are so fresh from the womb of Harvey Milk that you are still learning to walk.
I am seasoned and professional. Queen Latifa held me in her arms as a baby and whispered all the queer teachingsChim: Don’t take it personally, Hen. Buck would get jealous of a stick if Eddie looked at it for too long.
Buck: hey now
Ravi: IJBOL
Eddie: I hate gay people.
Hen: See? He’s getting the hang of it already

Summary
Buck thought he could track his life through different people’s kitchens. Eddie was starting to associate the Buckley siblings with hospitals. Maddie just wanted to understand her brother’s new life and had the ground stop moving from under her.
Or: conversations that didn’t happen in hospitals and at kitchen tables that should have and changed things just enough
A canon divergent rewrite, mostly starts to deviate from season 3, where Maddie & Eddie are friends.
Title from ‘Mess in Mine’ by Vance Joy (fic anthem a little bit)

Summary
“Hi, I’m Eddie Diaz, Jee-Yun’s Uncle.”
“Mr. Diaz, lovely to put a face to the name.” She shakes his hand quickly. “ She talks about you and your husband all the time, and so does Buck whenever he helps out.”
And Eddie should correct her. He really should. He and Buck are decidedly not married, they’re not even dating. Sure, Eddie’s though about it, of course he has. They’ve been best friends for years, his son loves him, and they’ve been sleeping in the same bed since he and Christopher got back from El Paso. But Eddie’s straight, and Buck isn’t into him like that.
He’s going to correct her. Definitely. He’s going to look at her and say–
“Yep, that’s me.”
Oh.
That’s not…
Or: Eddie chaperones Jee-Yun's school field trip, Buck gets jealous, and things spiral from there

Summary
Bobby slaps both gloved palms against the glass. “What are you saying, Buck?”
Buck doesn’t reply. He won’t meet Bobby’s eyes. He bows his head a little, reaching for the latch on his helmet.
“Buck!” Cold dread spills into the sockets of all of Bobby’s joints. “What are you doing!”
Buck fumbles to release the lock, but he gets it on the second try.
“Put your helmet back on! Kid!”
-OR-
Embark with me on an angsty journey as we imagine a universe in which it was not Bobby who was infected with CCHF, but Buck. That means Buck was stuck inside with the team in 8x14 and 8x15 while Bobby was running around outside with Athena. And Buck didn't tell anyone he'd been exposed. Let’s assume everything else is the same. Oh, except no one’s dying this time because I said so.

What if Bobby didn't die, but Eddie still came back after the whole issue with the lab to visit and just make sure everyone was ok. What if Buck and Eddie still have a fight in the kitchen.
What if Eddie and Chris still move back home, and some more lies are told.
Or what I would have liked to see this season end but instead get I get emotional damage cause Bobby is dead.

Summary
“I was just about to call you,” he starts, voice quiet. “Maddie’s in the living room. She’s been crying on and off for an hour.” Buck falters, tripping over his feet and narrowly avoiding crashing into Chimney. An hour… how many people did his dad call between him and Maddie? How far down on the list was he? He wants to be angry about it, that his mom died and it seems like he was one of the last people his dad called, but he’s just met with the same ever present pain he’s come to associate with his parents. It shouldn’t still hurt, it shouldn’t come as anything close to a surprise, but…
~
Or when Margaret Buckley dies, Buck and Maddie head back to Hershey with Chimney and Eddie to help with the funeral. Featuring: complicated relationships with grief, lots of hurt and lots of comfort, and so so much pining.

Summary
She thinks about her brother, how worried he was this afternoon, what Chim told her about that night, how he was digging in the mud, terrified. How he quickly asked her to come over as if it was his own house. How the first thing he did was drive to Eddie’s when he heard he’d called in. How soft he was in the bedroom. She thinks about all the conversations she and Buck have had about Eddie, how it’s slowly clicked into place for her, and how it probably just clicked into place for Buck in the last week- just how much he cares about Eddie, how much he loves him. How much losing Eddie would hurt.
Four days ago, Eddie nearly drowned in a well. Yesterday he changed his will, leaving Chris to Buck, not just because of his own feelings for him. Now he's sick, Buck's worried, but they both have Maddie, who starts to realize just how much Eddie reciprocates the feelings she knows her brother has.

Summary
And look. Maddie should know better than to get involved. But she’s at the point in her pregnancy where she’s cranky and uncomfortable all of the time. Sue's got her on reduced hours already due to the stressful nature of this pregnancy and she’s bored. There’s only so much daytime tv you can watch before your brain starts melting.
So, just a little push.
“You know, I always knew my brother was obsessed with you.”
Eddie chokes on his drink.
Okay, maybe that was more than a little push.
~
Maddie finally says her piece.

Summary
Neither one of them had the words to touch on the other's grief. Eddie had lost a man who saved his life multiple times, who he went to for advice, and who always knew what would help him. Buck lost something a little bit more. Maybe not more but different. Bobby was his captain, the same as Eddie but he was more than just a mentor. With Bobby, Buck experienced what it was like to be loved by a father for the first time in his life. And now Bobby's gone. Both of them are grieving.
Or Eddie comes home for the funeral, Buck finally crashes out, then things get better.
"Last Alarm" Never heard of her.

Summary
When Maddie's morning cup of decaf is interrupted by a persistent knocking at the door, she just knows it's Buck. Buck, her beloved baby brother, her pearl of great price, the biggest pain in her ass, having what is, no doubt, another crisis about his love life. Is it Tommy? Is it Eddie? Is it Taylor Goddamn Kelly?
Who knows. Truly.
She slowly pushes away from the kitchen table, forever grateful that her toddler, who would not have slept through this incessant banging, is already at school. Her belly, now at just over eight months, tilts her forward, causing her to waddle like a penguin across her living room and towards the noise.
She grips the handle and starts talking before she even opens the door.
"I told you, Buck, you've just gotta tell him--"
But it isn't Buck.
or: Maddie gets a visitor
