Summary
No one saw the break up coming. One day, the party was packing up the Byers' house, preparing for the big move to California. Two weeks later, Max was ignoring all of Lucas' phone calls.
Mike didn't like lying to his friends. In fact, he felt like a terrible person whenever he lied to them.
Lucas needed to find out who he was without the weight of the party and Max on his shoulders. Mike needed to figure out a way to talk to his best friend in California without throwing up. Moreover, they had to survive high school.
Or: Lucas and Mike navigate big changes in their lives at the same time. They're heartbroken, depressed, and totally screwed. Somewhere along the way, they realize they might not be so different after all.

Summary
“If you’re done ogling my son, why don’t you aim at the target,” Hopper says with forced casualness, like he’s not actively melting Mike’s brain from embarrassment. He was just admiring his friend! Who has muscles now!! That’s a completely normal guy thing to do, if all the buff men in his dad’s Men’s Club magazines are anything to go by.
“Not. Ogling,” Mike grits out as Hopper pushes his elbows down not-so-gently. “And would you stop manhandling me?” He wishes Will were the one teaching him instead. He wouldn’t mind Will’s hands on-
Alarms blare in his head. ABORT ABORT.
Or: Mike Wheeler experiences the five stages of grief, gay panic, and death by emotional vulnerability (the horror!!)

"This is really weird you know that?" Will smiled, "I missed you." He said a little quieter.
Mike's heart fluttered. He knew missing your friend was normal, but the way Will said it felt different. "I missed you too." Mike whispered, "I love you" went unsaid as he bit the inside of his cheek.

Summary
Maybe it’s the lingering adrenaline from the false alarm a moment ago, but Mike suddenly has a bad feeling deep in his gut. Something is off. Slowly, he walks around to look at Chrissy’s face.
White eyes. Rapid blinking. Unfocused. Unseeing.
Mike’s terror multiplies tenfold, heart rate ratcheting back up. He blinks and it’s Will standing in front of him, glaze-eyed and shaking, seizing, eyes twitching in their sockets, stuck in a waking nightmare as the Mind Flayer forces itself into every orifice.
He blinks again and it’s Chrissy, going through the same thing. Or something very similar.
Fuck. Not now. Not again.Or: After witnessing Chrissy's death, Mike finds himself on the frontlines of the latest interdimensional battle—and at the top of Hawkins’ Most Wanted list, as police, crazed townspeople, and otherworldly monsters all vie to get to him first.

Summary
He had said it out loud. He had told Will how lovely he looked. How could he be so dumb, Will must think he’s some kind of freak now.
Panicked, Mikes starts stuttering out an excuse, “I-uh sorry I wasn't trying to be weird or anything Will, really, I’m sor-”
He never gets to finish his sentence when Will interrupts him, something akin to hope lacing his words.
“Do you think I’m lovely?”
Mike is at a loss for words, and doesn’t know how to answer that, but Mike knows the answer and he just said it out loud. There's no point denying it now, he knows that, but to actually face it and talk to- to Will - who all this is about, about it is not something he has been preparing for.

Summary
“You wrote to me.” It’s not a question.
“Yeah, I – er, I mean. No.” The letters on the bed glare up at him, shaking their head in their obviousness.
“Which is it?” Will asks, and he’s nervous. Is he nervous? Mike wonders suddenly, because if anything, the boy looks fucking cocksure right now, with that half-hidden sort of grin at the corner of his mouth. And Mike is not turned on by it at all. Obviously. Because he is terrified.
“I wrote them, I just er, I never sent them.”
“No shit,” Will laughs, openly this time, taking a step closer to the bed. Mike forgets how to breathe. He can smell the fucking rain now, mixed with the scent of Will’s skin, and his shampoo, and the same fucking laundry detergent Joyce has used since they were in kindergarden. And Mike knows, with absolute certainty, he’s about to pass out.

Or: Will discovers Mike’s box of unsent letters. And Mike starts thinking in clichés. Two-way Lettergate

Summary
The year is 1984, and after Ted Wheeler dies because of some stupid lab accident at his annoying government job in Hawkins, Indiana, Thirteen-year-old Mike and his family are forced to move there and stay at some lousy trailer park because 1.) moving there was the closest thing they had to still being with him, not that Mike really cared, 2.) it was the cheapest place his mom could afford when you’re in charge of a family of four with no man in the house, and 3.) because Mike had kinda maybe sorta did something really, really bad to another boy at school that unfortunately just lined up with the time him and his family had to move so… nothing important really.

Summary
Immediately post-Season 4, the gang are catching up and reuniting at Hopper's old cabin. Mike, who's been on the edge of a panic attack for the past few days, excuses himself to get some 'fresh air'- unbeknownst to anyone but Joyce, who still isn't fully up-to-date on the Vecna situation. After about 30 minutes, the group notices his absence and are immediately concerned. They can't find Mike anywhere in the surrounding area, but they find the exact thing they were dreading; a small gate.
Mike finds himself in the Upside-Down, but the circumstances are strange. Vecna is nowhere to be seen and the area around him is completely barren. It's an elaborate plot to torment Mike with his greatest fears; forcing him to relive his own worst memories with his family and friends by his side.
How much could one kid have to hide, anyways?

Summary
Billy Hargrove hit Mike just a little bit harder, Max woke up just a little bit later and Mike Wheeler had always had shitty luck. He gets drugged, hauled to Russia and poked with so many needles that he doesn’t know where he began and the needles ended.
But it’s not so bad (He’s lying, it fucking sucks) at least he has the boy in the bed next to him, and his paper, and they finally stopped giving him cottage cheese with his meals.
He’s lying, he just wants to go home, but the doctor and this strange new thing in his chest isn’t going to let him. That’s fine, he’ll just have to get himself out.
TLDR: Mike Wheeler gets taken to Russia, gets powers and has to figure out how to get himself the hell out of there without killing himself first.

Summary
He takes a slow, deep breath in and exhales shakily, like his lungs do not want to let go of the air, as if they know that this may be the last time they get any. He's okay, he thinks to himself. He's okay. Mike's finger twitches against the trigger and images of blood and mangled skin overpower him for a moment. He's okay, right?

Summary
“Don’t do that. Don’t be nice about it. You can be mad. It’s okay.”
“I am mad,” Will said. “But not about her. I’m mad you disappeared. I’m mad you stopped calling. I’m mad you didn’t show up when I invited you to my graduation. I’m mad that I had to hear from Jonathan that you got married. I’m mad you cut all of us off like it didn’t mean anything. But mostly I’m mad that you waited until your daughter was ten years old and missing to let me see you again.”
“I’m sorry.”
Will didn’t answer. The pause dragged too long. But then his voice came, even and low. “I know.”
; Years after trying to outrun the scars of Hawkins, Mike Wheeler is dragged back when his daughter vanishes without a trace. The past isn’t done with him — and neither is the boy he once braved the dark for.

Summary
Too caught up in the crossfire and emotions, Michael Wheeler disappears from Starcourt in the middle of the chaos. A Russian soldier stares at Mike's slumped form. A child who had enough strength to get thrown around and still get back up was surely going to excel in Russia.
No one has noticed until they're resting outside the burning rubble that was Starcourt, and Will asks in a shaky voice."Has anyone seen Mike?"
